The Theory Test

Theory Test - The theory test is a touch screen based test, and consists of two parts. The first part is a series of multiple-choice questions and the second part is a test of your hazard perception skills.

The multiple-choice part consists of 35 multiple choice questions and you have 40 minutes to complete these questions. Several answers to a question will appear on screen from these you have to select the correct answer. Remember to read the questions carefully as they may require more than one answer. You can navigate between questions and 'flag' questions that you want to come back to later in the test.

The pass mark is 30 out of 35

Hazard Perception – This too is delivered on a computer and you respond by clicking a button on the mouse. The test will consist of 14 video clips, which feature every day road scenes. In each clip there will be at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will feature two developing hazards.

To score maximum marks you need to respond quickly to the developing hazard. The maximum you can score on each hazard is five.

Please Note: You will NOT be able to review your answers of the Hazard Perception test as you can during the theory test, you will have only ONE chance to respond to the developing hazard.

You must also pass both the Road Theory and Hazard Perception to gain your pass certificate. Failing one will result in a re-examination.
